Creating change with kindness
Dear Readers,
Recently, while scrolling through my feed, I came across a post that says, "Think of the sun. It does not try to shine like the moon, nor does a river try to flow like the wind." It just stuck with me, like how we all are trying to fit in, forgetting the magic of being real.
People who are real don't try to pretend to be someone they are not; they live in a way that is true to who they are—THEY ARE THE MOST MAGNETIC PEOPLE ONE WILL EVER COME ACROSS.
Nowadays, Acceptance is easier said than accomplished. We try to change ourselves to fit in with society, and in the process of fitting in, we forget the most important things: empathy and kindness. If we get too much into being perfectionists then what about the time when we make some mistakes and then have a fear of what now they will leave us, oh no!
And if they leave you then it means they were just with you for their gains, a temporary relationship. And I bet you don't want a temporary relationship. That's why self-acceptance is essential, surround yourself with people who are true to you and good for you and help you in your self-development also helps you to stay true to yourself.
Why empathy and kindness matter
We never know what someone is struggling with.
That is why kindness, understanding and empathy matter so much. Maybe behind a smile, there's a pain.We live in a society where people are fighting battles we can't always see - or maybe most of the time we ignore it and indulge ourselves in our lives because we want to FIT IN.
Many people are dealing pressure of expectation, children drop out to be the breadwinners of their house, are stuck in a cycle of poverty, fear failure or simply are asked to grow up at a young age.
All this brings me to Pehchaan The Street School, a ten-year-old organisation with 10 centres providing learning to underprivileged children. Here the idea of fitting in takes a backseat and the focus is on the holistic development of children. They nurture kindness, build support, and create a safe space for Pehchaan The Street School’s students and their families to grow together. This non-profit organisation stands as a beacon of hope for underprivileged children.
At Pehchaan The Street School children have the authority to dream fearlessly, they go beyond textbooks and bring learning to life with creative education and skill training, opening doors to brighter opportunities for Pehchaan The Street School’s children.
Starting with only 10 children and five volunteers Pehchaan The Street School has become a ray of hope for many underprivileged children.
This organisation is driven and maintained by volunteers, most of whom are college or school-going students. They believe in change. They are ordinary people with extraordinary skills and heart. They become bhaiya, didi, friends and listeners. They all made sure to remind these kids every day: YOU MATTER.
They don't just teach they Create, they Explore, they Inspire.
They provide them with learning and training for this fast-paced modern world, to break free from the cycle of poverty and generate employment.
They teach girls and boys in the same space and provide similar resources, which reduces gender discrimination. The financial support provided by them reduces parents' economic burden making education accessible to the children.
They ensure a safe environment for girl children where they feel valued and equal.
Children get exposure to new scenarios, new people, and new stories, and learn about different lifestyles and perspectives through community engagement.
Collaborations
Recently Pehchaan The Street School also had the pleasure of hosting their international guest Victoria and Ines from @ind.ispensable.pouch for an art session at Indraprastha Centre. These collaborations help the organisation to bring diversity to a single platform.
Artisoul Bakes also sent cupcakes and butter cookies to the kids at Pehchaan The Street School- bringing so much joy and smiles to the children.

Changing lives
Pehchaan The Street School is changing the lives of children who have been kept away from the basic comforts of life. They believe in the saying, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” That’s why they focus on holistic education—to help kids become independent and confident. At Pehchaan The Street School, kids are not just learning from books, they’re building dreams and discovering their true selves. In a way, they’re creating their own “Pehchaan.”
Despite the incredible work being done, Pehchaan The Street School faces several challenges :
- Lack of Funding- This is the most important need for an NGO to work successfully.
- Lack Of Resources- Due to lack of funding NGOs are unable to fulfil many requirements many times.
- Need for more volunteers- Pehchaan The Street School is a volunteer-driven organisation and dedicated volunteers are one of the major needs.
- Inadequate infrastructure - It affects the delivery of education and limits access for children.
