What is privilege?

Having necessities of life, such as having a roof over your head, clothes to wear, and food on your plate is a privilege in its way. These are essential for survival. However, the privilege extends beyond these basics. It also includes access to resources that foster success and opportunities that enable one to excel.

For many children, a backpack is a simple yet cherished school essential—some even proudly show off their favourite cartoon designs. But at Pehchaan The Street School, many students carry their essentials in plastic bags. Does that make them any less deserving of education? Absolutely not.

These children are as ambitious as those children enrolled in prestigious schools.

Their day begins with silent prayers and later with the introduction of one good habit- this small moment encourages positive behaviour and values.

Impact

Pehchaan The Street School, a 10-year organisation with around 10 centres and more than 1600 children enrolled, is dedicated to bringing free and quality education to underprivileged children.

Pehchaan The Street School’s children are not only burdened with backpacks but they are burdened with the responsibilities of their families.

However, Pehchaan the Street School creates a safe place for these children and they teach without pressure. They unpack their burden by

Providing flexible timing for class i.e school starts in the afternoon,
Offering vocational and skill-based training
Conducting engaging workshops on arts and crafts, music, dance, personal hygiene etc
Building emotional and social well-being.
Additionally, they supply materials for their academic needs and During festivals and special occasions, they distribute sweets and small gifts to the children and teach them about their culture.

Overall, they offer a place for open conversation and holistic development.

They aim to uplift underprivileged children for instance, Deepak, one of its oldest students passed his class 12th with an impressive score of 83%. His score proves that education can change a life when given the right support and opportunity.

At Pehchaan The Street School, the volunteers and interns work closely with the children, guiding and teaching them essential practical skills. They play a vital role in running and maintaining this organization.

They also provide community engagement which opens a door for children to get exposure to new scenarios, new people, and new stories, and learn about different lifestyles and perspectives.

Recently, this organisation signed an MOU with SDG.SCFA.NCR at Christ University Delhi NCR.

Challenges

Lack of Funding- This is the most important need for an NGO to work successfully.
Lack Of Resources- Due to lack of funding NGOs are unable to fulfil many requirements many times.
Need for more volunteers- Pehchaan The Street School is a volunteer-driven organisation and dedicated volunteers are one of the major needs.
Inadequate infrastructure - It affects the delivery of education and limits access for children.

Conclusion
Pehchaan The Street School replaces the burden of underprivileged children with quality education. They understand that every child deserves a bag full of hope, knowledge, opportunities, confidence and dreams.

Ways You Can Support Pehchaan The Street School

• Volunteer -on the ground or online and contribute your time as per your availability.

• Internship -on the ground or online, one can choose from multiple positions as per interest. All interns get a certificate after completion of the internship.

•Member-Membership is for everyone who can't commit time or can't work either online or offline. One can also donate a certain amount and become a member of the trust.
